A digital switch is an integrated circuit that uses MOSFET-based analog switches to route or isolate signals under digital control. Each switch behaves like a voltage-controlled resistor: when its control input is activated, the internal MOSFET conducts and allows an analog or digital signal to pass with low resistance; when deactivated, it presents a very high resistance, effectively disconnecting the path. Devices like the 74HC4316 offer multiple independently controlled bilateral switches, making them useful for signal multiplexing, audio routing, sensor selection, and other applications where flexible, low-distortion switching is needed without mechanical relays.
